The Public abuse of Britney Spears

By : Maheen Ahmed

Britney Spears will forever be known as the princess of pop, and has been a performer since she was a little girl. She grew up in the public eye, and it perhaps because of that we as a society have seen not only her rise to stardom but also her fall and abuse by the same media, system and family that turned her into a commodity.

With what we’ve seen all her life, the road of abuse is long and troubling and this is a human rights issue. She was pushed into the industry as a child and has been actively working since the age of five and the public for the most part the media made her a subject for shame and attacks, but where some stars had support from family, and well wishers, Britney was denied that.

July 1, 2021 – news broke that the judge overlooking Britney’s appeal to be free from her father’s role in the conservatorship has been denied.

With the flood and years of evidence against the family and her recent 23 minute testimony this decision does not sit well with anyone with a conscious.

Keep in mind she been in a conservatorship for thirteen years now, a conservatorship is for senior citizens and people who are unable to take care of themselves and not make good decisions.

If Britney Spears is unable to take care of herself why has been worked like a dog for thirteen years?

She can go on media ours but not use her own social media?

If Britney cannot take care of herself and use her own money, why is she forced to work on stage in front of thousands to make that money?

The logic is absurd!

Trial by Media

Britney Spears was America’s sweet heart from a young age, but she became a pop icon at the age of sixteen, when she released ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time’, a song that to this day dominates the music scene.

She became the subject for ridicule and slut shaming, because the public couldn’t handle the sexuality of a teenager, and even if they didn’t like a slightly provocative imagery, was it justified to verbally abuse the girl and appoint her as the role model for their own kids?

TV hosts made her the butt of jokes and they make guests say that she was wrong or a bad role model just to get a buzz out of her name. In interviews with her, they had no shame in telling her all the rude things people were saying about and film her hurt reactions.

There were grown women shameless enough to say they would shoot her because according to them she was a bad role model.

Her likeness was also used in several jokes and parodies.

The worst of course being how she was hunted by the paparazzi, people without any shame or class who would follow her everywhere and sell her pictures for money. They cared nothing for well-being and the worst scene is off them filming her meltdown and acting like victims when she called them out.

Hurt by Lovers

Justin Timberlake, who wasted no time in acting like a victim, after their break up, also made jokes about her on talk shows and slut shamed her and also used her likeness in music videos.

Even the apology he gave had to be beat out of him for both Britney and Janet Jackson.

Kevin Fedarline who basically lives off Britney played a big part in her break down because who would not allow her to see her own kids. Even two years ago he had the nerve to demand more money.

Money for what Kevin?

He gets more money from her estate than she does!

Daddy Dearest

Unlike other fathers of star performers, Jamie Spears wasn’t a huge part of her life growing up. He is now the villain in his own daughter’s life, and has been for a decade.

How does a father come to destroy his own child’s life? His own grandchildren are aware that he is not a nice man, and for so long he had the world believe that Britney was crazy and that he was only trying to protect her.

Now that the whole family is being exposed they all should consider thinking about how they treated and begin to look at her as a human being.

The Sins against her Body

From her testimony in court we learned that her father put her on the drug Lithium, about which clearly states messed with her mind. She further stated that she cannot have children because she was forced to have an IUD ( contraceptive implant) , she wants to have it removed so that she can live a full life and do what she wants to do for her life.

Again this is terrible and it is a human rights issue.

Furthermore if we are to believe that Britney is ill and cannot do things on her own, how is it ethical in any way for her to do concerts and shows?

Would regularly performing and working not be bad for her health?

This whole scenario is an injustice and deplorable. It’s good that there are investigations happening now we hope that the truth comes out and that the woman who has done so much and deserves the world get to live her life, be happy and be with her children.
