Filmmaker Rohit Shetty became the first director in the history of Bollywood cinema to deliver eight back – to – back films with more than Rs 100 crore in the home box office. His latest Ranveer Singh star Simmba made more than Rs 124 crore in five days.
The filmmaker who is an expert in making masala entertainer films has successfully delivered 8 Bollywood films that have reached the Rs 100 crore mark.
Shetty becomes the first Bollywood director to achieve this feat with Simmba ‘s success.
Simmba is a spin-off of his popular film series Singham, which starred Ajay Devgn as a hard cop.
The journey of 100 cr club started from ‘Golmaal 3’ in (2010) and then there was no looking back for him. His other films that entered the 100 cr club are ‘Singham’ (2011), ‘Bol Bachchan’ (2012), ‘Chennai Express’ (2013), ‘Singham Returns’ (2014), ‘Dilwale’ (2015), ‘Golmaal Again’ (2017) and ‘Simmba’ (2018).
Shetty might not be much appreciated by critics but the box office numbers speak for him. Every time he comes up with something new, he is able to connect with the people.
Not only in the domestic circuit but also in the international circuit, his movies have a decent track record. As he says that he makes those movies which he likes not which critics or film experts like and perhaps this is the reason of his success.
