Pepe’s story starts in London in 2004. At the time, Piri Piri was virtually unknown in the UK and available in a handful of places. That changed with the launch of Pepe’s first store in London, which was called Pepe’s Piri Piri.
Almost overnight, Pepe’s Piri Piri chicken became the talk of the town. They were the first to use the name Piri Piri. Their combination of flavours kept bringing customers back. By word of mouth, Pepe’s was soon crowded with queues lined up waiting to try more of Pepe’s Piri Piri.
Today, the restaurant has almost a 100 branches in less than 15 years and has recently opened doors for Karachiites after launching their store a day prior. The Karachi store marks Pepe’s 3rd outlet in Pakistan – with Islamabad’s Giga Mall outlet being the first followed by Lahore’s Emporium Mall outlet. You can only imagine the excitement we witnessed at the launch. After taking reviews from attendees and trying out the food ourselves, here are our top reasons of why we are totally in love with Pepe’s Piri Piri:
Let’s admit it, as Karachiites, we’re spoiled with the variety of food we have access too. Undoubtedly, we are also super picky with our food and the flavors. You will only become loyal to any restaurant if they have something new to offer. There is no doubt what so ever that we got to experience that first hand at Pepe’s. The combination of flavors is very distinctive and definitely one you don’t want to miss. Be it the 6 unique flavors they offer including Mango & Lime, Lemon & Herb, Mild, Hot, Extra Hot and Extreme; or the variety of items offered in their menu including Piri bites, grilled chicken, chicken espetada, chicken and rice to name a few.
Unlike most restaurants, Pepe’s only offers fresh chicken. The quality of the ingredients comes through as soon as you take a bite of anything off the menu. Pepe’s has also somehow managed to keep the prices affordable which is something perhaps other Pakistani food chains could study and trying adopting to their as well.
Pepe’s is all about healthy wholesome food which is why they mostly serve grilled chicken. However, this is not like any other grilled chicken you’ve tried before. It’s super juicy and succulent. We guarantee that you might be full but will still crave for more.
Pepe’s Piri Piri is the one that introduced piri piri to UK. They’re the reason why you even know that piri piri exists. That’s reason enough for any foodie or piri piri lover to try them out.
The environment is also relaxed and very chilled out. Its casual dining so you’d definitely want to visit with family and friends. The staff is also great and super helpful. Definite must visit!
