Two weeks ago, several women on social media accused the renowned vlogger Umar Khan aka Ukhano of sexual harassment.
Several screenshots of discussions were shared between the 28-year-old and other females on various sites where Ukhano could be seen sharing his obscene photos with females and asking for their ‘ courageous ‘ images in exchange.
“I’ve worked very hard my whole life, shot several videos and worked with a number of women. I’m certain I’ve never made any of them uncomfortable,” Ukhano shared in an earlier video.
On Wednesday night, Ukhano gave another clarification in a rather detailed video on social media.
“Recently a controversy was orchestrated against me and this vlog is about the same topic. I made a video addressing the same issue before as well but I wasn’t sure as to what was transpiring back then,” he shared in an eight-minute long video.
“Private, personal and two way conversations were leaked on social media. The same conversations were censored and blurred to suit a certain purpose and that helped people build an opinion about me that I am clearing now.”
Ukhano further commented, “Let’s clear your concepts first. Flirting, consensual flirting, harassment, sexual harassment, violence and domestic violence: do they all mean the same thing or is it any different?”
He went on to add how that no only were his personal pictures made public but they were also used to create a number of memes, which was in bad taste.
“To everyone of you, it might be a jest. But for me, my family and my friends, it’s very serious. My career, my whole life is at stake,” he continued. “These screenshots can easily be forged. There are only few conversations from all the leaked chats that are authentic. But even from those chats, the responses of the girls were censored just to frame me as a sexual harasser and predator.”
He rubbished such claims and called out people who implied the same. Ukhano said that the calling out culture on social media has turned into an issue itself.
“Leaking conversations to defame someone is wrong, immoral and unethical. Alongside these screenshots, there were few extremely graphic conversations with unsolicited pictures and a fake chat with a 17-year-old girl that was ‘leaked’,” he asserted.
“I have filed a complain against all these users in the FIA because that’s the proper way to pursue such cases instead of defaming individuals on social media without proof. I can do the same but imagine what would be left of that girl’s life?”
Ukhano then discussed the penalty for defaming a person or invading someone’s privacy.
“The constitution of Pakistan safeguards my privacy and dignity. I have a right to pursue this legally and that’s what I plan on doing,” he added.
The vlogger then went on to address a shocking accusation of him being a ‘rapist’. “I was labelled far more than just a flirt by one of the girls and that tag has been associated with me since. I have sent that girl a legal notice and I will not let this go until she apologises publicly,” Ukhano revealed.
He also said that this ‘controversy’ cannot be associated to the #MeToo movement.
“You cannot connect everything to a movement about women,” he said. “But, after clarifying everything, if I have ever hurt anyone or made them uncomfortable, then I apologise unconditionally and wholeheartedly.”
He then added how he would like the public to wait for an official verdict before passing anymore judgments.
