Selfies are a huge part of our contemporary social media scene.
Be it a day alone or having a fun time with friends taking a selfie has become a tradition to capture that moment and it just lays their in our pictures or on Facebook, where they aren’t really looked.
Selfies have also become a way of self expression and they have come a long way aesthetically from being flashy, bathroom pictures with a yellow tint, as now there are specific apps focused on giving you the most ‘yessified’ photograph ever.
Plus with the wide variety of filters available now you can probably have a fun time, and get a little creative.
It’s safe to say we’ve really pushed that whole theory of taking selfies being an indication of the rise of narcissism in our society.
Being a young adult as of writing this, I can safely say that Ive seen a lot of selfies and how they’ve developed and transformed over time.
Also as a photographer I’ve seen a lot of pictures that weren’t that good and despite the ease of taking selfies people still manage to take some that don’t look that nice.
Overall no one is going crazy over anyone’s selfies – they are easy to make and abundant.
There is someone who takes the best selfies I’ve seen in a good while and that is Laila Wasti.
Off the that she is beautiful woman with something alluring and calm about her whole aura so even her worst picture, on a sick, in bad lighting and with no preparation is still better than what most of us can produce.
Perhaps what makes that haunting is how she looks straight into that camera and always finds the light.
She is both casual and put well together. Her selfies don’t hover over her face alone and allow her outfit and hair to be a part of the visual, thus come off as balanced.
It’s also amazing that in a an Instagram world where all the kids wait for golden hour to get the perfect for their sun-kissed selfie miss Wasti does just as well with the white flare from her window.
They also aren’t over edited or with any filters.
The best thing really is that she comes off as joyful and has tips and tricks that everyone else should follow.
